Clemson Homecoming Float Build Chair, March 2015 - October 2015

I became an active member in Triangle Fraternity since the Fall of 2013. Upon joining I became heavily involved by working in committees under executive board officers. Through this experience, I made it my goal to become an officer on the board. During my time as president, the chapter's membership grew from 18 to 33 members, successfully petitioned the university and national council to charter, and organized multiple philanthropies and community service events. The photo to the left is of me and some of my brothers initiating a brother chapter from the University of Charlotte.  In my time as president, I developed professional communication skills through rush events, technical writing skills when writing the charter, and event planning experience while working with non-profits. The skills I developed as president will help my transition into the workplace.

As committee chair under our external vice president, I was put in charge of all philanthropy events the fraternity participated in. In this position, I organized the largest philanthropy event in our chapters history by partnering with Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority and Habitat for Humanity. The concept was team capture the flag competitions in which prizes were given to the winners and money was raised through donations and entry fees. The event was attended by around 200 people and raised a couple thousand dollars for each organizations chosen non-profit. Through my work on this event I developed organizational skills and the experience of taking a project from the idea phase and see it through to completion.

The Clemson float build is a yearly tradition in which student organizations construct large immobile floats for incoming alumni and their families to enjoy. I was instilled as my fraternities head of this build in March 2015 and carried it through the fall after I became our vice president of external affairs. To begin this process, all of the organizations vice presidents had to attend and pass classes to receive our OSHA certification. Following passage we designed the float and ordered our expected supplies through online retailers. The week prior to homecoming the organization leaders scheduled individual members work requirements and led the other members in construction of the float. In my time as vice president I developed the ability to organize large groups of people into efficiently operating teams working toward a common goal. The picture to the left is of our completed float.
